The first coins of Guinea were the 1959
dated series of denominations 5, 10 and 25 Francs; the coins of the
second series were dated 1962 and were 1, 5, 10 and 25 Francs. All
seven types include one of three portraits of Ahmed Sékou
Touré, the country’s first President. Below are the 25 Francs of
each of these two series.

Guinea 25 Francs 1959
Included on the Guinea 25 Francs 1959, as on all three types of 1959,
is the date “2nd October 1958”. This was the date on which Guinea
declared independence from France.

Guinea 25 Francs 1962
Included on the Guinea 25 Francs 1962, as on all four types of 1962, is
the date “1st March 1960”. This was the date on which the Central Bank
of Guinea was established and the day on which Guinea withdrew from the
Franc zone.
