Swakopmund Casino Tokens

There are a few others but the most collectible tokens I know of for Namibia are slot machine tokens from the casino at Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre. Swakopmund is Namibia’s second biggest town (after the capital Windhoek) and is located on the Atlantic coast. The common side of this series of six tokens shows the logo of Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre (well actually the logo on their website includes small palm trees at around 3 and 9 o’clock). The reverse designs all include denomination, the word “TOKEN”, one or more appearances of the four suites and one of the various pictoral devices mainly from the hotel’s logo.
There are six pieces to this series...
Swakopmund 25 Cent (reverse only).
The 25 Cents, is apparently Bronze and the reverse of this piece features two two sand dunes and the sun.
Swakopmund 50 Cent (the obverse is common to the whole
series).
The 50 Cents, is Aluminium-Bronze and the reverse of this piece features the sun, obviously as a reminder of the weather in these parts of the world.
Swakopmund 5, 2 and 1 Dollar (reverses only).
The 1 Dollar, this is Copper-Nickel and the reverse
of this piece features
palm trees, these are a regular feature of
this region’s flora.
The 2 Dollar, this is Copper-Nickel and the reverse
of this piece features the spire as seen from the front of the hotel.
This is a reminder of the German influenced architecture of the hotel and
many other buildings in Namibia.
The 5 Dollar, this is Copper-Nickel and the reverse
of this piece features the Ghost Ship, representing the Skeleton
Coast (Someone at the hotel told me this bit !). Namibia’s coast is with
the Atlantic Ocean and is known to be rather treacherous as well as being
rich in diamonds. (Swakopmund is on this coast.)
Swakopmund 10 Dollar (reverse only).
The 10 Dollar, this is apparently Copper-plated-Steel and the reverse of this piece features a mermaid. The mermaid is part of the hotel’s logo since the hotel’s casino is called “Mermaid Casino”.
